The number of winners doesn't matter, though. If someone who was nominated didn't win the election, it didn't matter that many of the rest of us didn't either. Sydney council objects to chinese consulate razor on streets of south Sydney

A NSW council has threatened legal action to force Chinese consulate razors on the streets of a suburb.

Chinese consulate employees have been warned that removing the razors could trigger claims against the company who provided the razor to Sydney.

A spokesman for the Sydney council's heritage community development committee, said an appeal by Sydney council would seek to protect the rights of Chinese consulate employees as they could face potential civil and criminal liability if they removed the razors from public streets in the future.

There was a similar response from the City of Sydney's heritage department to earlier similar claims on the same streets.

Councillors initially objected to the installation of the razors in the streets because they were illegal and had raised red flags, but had been reassured they were allowed to carry the razors in public at the consulate where they were provided.

"We are confident, if we appeal, that this situation will be rectified," the spokesman said.

The council had earlier said it would seek legal advice in relation to the razor issue, before withdrawing its threat to sue in the absence of further legal action.

A total of eight razors have been removed from public areas in the past two weeks to ensure they would not be used by non-citizens seeking to enter Australian and New Zealand territory.

The Sydney department did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Monday, but has previously said it does not provide razors to Chinese nationals.
